As loose as it may be, the cross-hatching rendering adds a tremendous weight of emotion. Makes me consider that cross-hatching has a definite place in comics syntax. I'd been afraid to use it after enduring the Liefeld years, but I've been embracing it more lately, and my eyes are opening to the impact of good shading.
Cross hatching is easy to use, hard to master, and too often all fouled up. It's one of the things that I do want to explore more fully in my sketches. This was a pretty feeble attempt though.
