I Suck At Art

I use the international cartoon symbol for crap quite liberally in this strip. This is what they call an iconic representation of crap. If you're crap really looks like this then I think you've got problems, my friend. Note also the international cartoon symbols for stink and flies.

Actually, uh... I can't believe I'm gonna explain this...

The "crap icon" comes from Asia, where in some places (though not much anymore) they still have "traditional toilets." Basically, these are holes in the ground that then have a washing system. But, to use them requires a squating action, and, well, the "crap" symbol is what it ends up looking like (or idealized at least).

Aside from that... I liked the "what's real what's not" experiment you had in this one. Very nice.

For the baby news . . .
Babies do get cranky and uncooperative when cutting teeth. Even when a tooth breaks the surface of the gum, the surrounding area may get reinflamed and then you cannot see the tooth. Let Sophie chew on your clean finger for awhile, you'll feel the edge.

I did see her tooth, just not right away. She's actually been really good about it, not complaining or fussing too much or anything. She just doesn't like people sticking their fingers in her mouth or pulling back her lip to see the tooth (and who can blame her?). I was just making a little joke about that.

And thanks, Neil, for explaining the crap icon. I guess it's good to know where it comes from at least. I always thought it looked a little like soft-serve ice cream. An observation which, strangely, never turned me off of soft-serve ice cream.
