I WIN!

This year for my birthday I decided to have a big slice of bitter humor with a tall cool glass of in poor taste. Dead at 27 is a rock and roll legend that some date back to Robert Johnson and his deal at the crossroads. That's actually a small part of a much larger story I've been collecting notes on the past few years (and, in all honesty, will probably never be written - ah, well). This gag has been kind of distilled from that.

Anyway, happy birthday to me.

Happy birthday, indeed. I wish we could be there to celebrate with you personally, but, alas, life goes on busily.

Love,
Dad

Happy birthday - now you get to look forward to the next milestone: dead at 33. Ready the crucifix!

Truly, Happy Birthday! In caveman ages you would be ancient! You old man!

Oh, nice comic btw.

Who's the last guy? Sid Vicious?

Many happy returns, old man.

Thanks everybody! I made it through the day safely so I'm oficially twenty-eight now. I appreciate all the good will and thanks stopping by here.

Yeah, Grant, that is Sid Vicious.
Hey! How about a dull old Jamaican ten cent piece to the first person to name everyone pictured? Bonus points for birth names too!

Kurt Cobain, James Dean, Jim Morrison, John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Brian Jones, Janis Joplin, aw man . . . she's stumping me. . . Sid Vicious of course at the end.

whoops. . . I guess John Lennon is really you :)

Dwayne Allman third from the bottom

K. Cobain, J. Morrison, J. Hendrix, B. Jones, J. Joplin, Sid Vicious and me are all there. I think that the guy you think is Jim Morrison actually is not (crummy, tiny little pictures).

James Dean - no, not a musician (I'm the only non rockstar there)

Third one up - not Dwayne Allman.

Karen Carpenter died in her thirties, making her ineligible for the list. I think that 70's era androgyny is kinda fouling you up on that picture anyway - it's a guy.

I followed a couple rules when I made the list here. First, they were all dead by the age of twenty-seven. Next, all of them died from either drug overdoses or suicide (excluding Morrison, Jones, and myself - but Jones and Morrison's death's have the taint of rock excess as well). And it's all in alphabetical order by last name (or assumed last name in Sid Vicious' case)

There's a couple semi-obscure musicians here (not super obscure but not all that popular, these days) and such tiny pictures make it even harder. I can post the list if you want.

Is the Jim Morrison guy actually Nick Drake? I'm addicted to this!

Yes it is.

You're getting closer! Remember, Ten whole (Jamaican) cents is on the line here!

OK so maybe "James Dean" is Ian Curtis of Joy Division. "Dwane Allman" is maybe Ron McKernan from the Grateful Dead. "Karen Carpenter" might be Gram Parsons from the Byrds.

I'm grasping at straws here. . .

You've actually named everyone there, but not always for the right picture (and now you have some extra names)

1. Kurt Cobain 2. Ian Curtis 3. Nick Drake 3. Tim 4. Jimi Hendrix 5. Brian Jones 6. Janis Joplin 7. Ron McKernan 8. Gram Parsons 9. Sid Vicious

So close. Just one off.

Curtis I didn't know. And I didn't recognize Parsons. And Allman is spelled "Duane." For in interesting study in coincidences, look into the deaths of Duane Allman and Berry Oakley from ABB.

And another belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY. I feel like a schmuck for missing it. Still want to take me to Cedar Point? I'll drive.

Well, Chris, you got the list right. After Grant did all that legwork, too. I guess you're stuck with a useless coin now. Ha Ha!

Thanks again, everyone, for the birthday wishes. I think this has become the longest thread ever, here at this blog.
